Collaboration with letter press artist Caren Florance
Caren and I collaborated on a book about Tom Dooley, after I had made a series of pulp prints about him, whilst on a residency at Queensland College of Art. Whilst visiting Caren at the Australian National University in Canberra, I asked her if she would be willing to print onto some of my pulp prints and Left the construction and interpretation entirely up to her.
The result was this beautiful and unique artist book

Personal Histories
Dear Elaine
Mixed media, screen-printed book with cotton cloth and stitched ribbon spine, a poppy collection tin housing a selection a miniature postcards printed digitally. Dear Elaine, is a book I made for an exhibition called Personal Histories, and is about my great-grandfather John V Pye. John was a solider in the 8th Army, but rather than talking about his experience of war the book looks at the relationship between him and his daughter, my grandma. The tiny postcards are recreated from the postcards he sent her during his seven years at war and addresses the issue of how you try to form a relationship with your child that you can not see. |
